All parents face these questions:

• How can my child learn to speak correctly?
• Which are the best ways of promoting my child's language development?
• How and where can my child learn an additional language as early as possible?

Migrant parents, on their part, feel the strong obligation to have their children taught good German, and thus are in urgent need of information and support to find answers to questions such as:

• How can my child learn to speak correctly?
• Which language should he/she learn first?
• Does the language used in the family impair the learning of German as second language?
• What can I do to enable my child to speak correctly / speak German correctly?
• Which are the best ways of promoting my child's language development?
• Where / how is my child to learn German if the German language is rarely used in the family and the neighbourhood?

These Letters for Parents deal with the questions, fears and problems of parents with regard to the promotion of their children's language development irrespective of their mother tongue and of their being monolingual or multilingual. In addition, they give advice on how parents can accompany and promote their children's language development and in which areas they are doing a very good job already.
